Install Selekta on your Mac

Updated 23 October 2026

Download the .dmg for your Mac's chip from the download section, open it and drag Selekta into Applications. Selekta needs macOS 11 Big Sur or later, is signed and notarized by Apple, and updates itself after you agree to each update.

Apple Silicon or Intel

There are two builds, one per chip. Each is a separate .dmg.

Build For File
Apple Silicon Macs with M1 and later Selekta_<version>_aarch64.dmg
Intel Macs with an Intel processor (x86-64) Selekta_<version>_x86_64.dmg

To check which one you need, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If the window shows Chip, your Mac has Apple Silicon. If it shows Processor, it has an Intel chip.

Both builds require macOS 11 Big Sur or later. Selekta is in beta: it is new and changing quickly, so keep a backup of anything you edit on a Production database.

Install from the .dmg

  1. Go to the download section, pick Apple Silicon or Intel, and click the download button.
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg. A window shows the Selekta icon and your Applications folder.
  3. Drag Selekta onto Applications.
  4. Eject the disk image in Finder.
  5. Open Selekta from Applications or Launchpad.

The database drivers for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, SQLite and SQL Server are built into the app. Nothing else is downloaded when you connect. Only Backup and Restore use command-line tools (pg_dump, pg_restore, mysqldump, mysql), which you install separately if you need them. See Backup and restore.

Gatekeeper and notarization

Every release is signed with the Developer ID of PT Kreasi Maju Aksara and notarized by Apple. Gatekeeper checks both when you first open the app, so Selekta opens like any other app from the internet.

The first time you open it, macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open. You are not asked again.

Updates

Selekta checks for a newer version and offers it to you. Nothing downloads until you agree.

How checks work

With Check for updates on in Settings › General (on by default), Selekta asks the update server for the latest version when it starts, if the last check is over 6 hours old, and then every 6 hours while it is open. You can also check at any time:

  • In the macOS menu bar, choose Selekta › Check for Updates…. You always get an answer, such as "You're on the latest version".
  • In Settings › About, click Check now.

Downloading and installing

When a new version is available, a notice appears once per version with Download and Later. Later keeps an Update item in the status bar and a banner in Settings › About, so you can come back to it.

  1. Click Download. The status bar shows the progress.
  2. When it finishes, the notice says the new version is ready. Click Restart to update.
  3. Selekta runs the same checks as when you quit: script drafts are saved, and if a tab has an open transaction or edits that are not applied, you are asked first.
  4. The new version replaces the app and starts. Open tabs and unsaved scripts come back.

Each update is signed. Selekta verifies the signature after downloading and refuses an update whose signature does not match, so a changed download is never installed.

Uninstall

Quit Selekta and move it from Applications to the Trash. Your saved connections, scripts, query history and settings stay in ~/Library/Application Support/id.kreasimaju.selekta, and passwords stay in the macOS Keychain under id.kreasimaju.selekta. Delete those too if you want to remove everything.
