Settings

Updated 23 October 2026

Settings opens as a tab with eight sections: General, Editor, Data grid, Map, Shortcuts, Tools, Security and About. Every change is saved and applied immediately; there is no Save button.

Open Settings with ⌘,, the gear button at the top right, or Selekta › Settings… in the macOS menu bar. Move between sections with the arrow keys in the section list. The Shortcuts section is described in Keyboard shortcuts.

General

Look and start-up behaviour.

Setting What it does
Theme Dark, Light or System. System follows the macOS appearance. Default: System.
Zoom Scales the whole interface: 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, 125% or 150%. ⌘= and ⌘- step, ⌘0 resets. A focused schema diagram zooms itself instead.
Restore tabs on start Reopens editor and table tabs from the last session. Connections open only when a tab needs them. Default: on.
Check for updates Checks every 6 hours while Selekta is open. A notice offers the download; nothing downloads until you agree. The check also counts this install anonymously, see Privacy. Default: on.

Editor

SQL editor behaviour for all connections.

Setting What it does
Font size 10 to 24 px, in Geist Mono. Default: 13.
Tab size 2, 4 or 8, inserted as spaces. Default: 2.
Autocomplete while typing Suggests tables, columns and keywords from the cached schema. Esc closes the list. Default: on.
Format SQL before run Formats the statement before it runs. Off by default, so what you typed is exactly what runs and lands in history.
Run statement under cursor ⌘↵ runs the statement at the cursor. When off, it runs the selection, or the whole script when nothing is selected. Default: on.
Start Production tabs in manual commit New SQL and data tabs on a Production connection open in manual commit, so changes wait for Commit. Switch a tab to Auto in its action bar. Default: on.

See SQL editor and Production safety.

Data grid

How result sets and table data are fetched and shown.

Setting What it does
Default fetch size Rows read per page, 10 to 10,000. Scroll to the end or press Fetch more for the next page. Above 1,000 a warning says large pages slow down scrolling on wide tables. Default: 200.
NULL display The text for NULL, shown as a bordered italic tag so it never looks like an empty string. Default: NULL.
Date format 2026-10-20 14:32:07+07, As returned by driver, or 20 Oct 2026 14:32. Display only; exports have their own option.
Max characters per cell Longer values are cut with … and open in full in the value panel. Default: 2000.
Show column types in header A small type label after each column name. Default: on.

A number outside the allowed range shows an error and keeps the last valid value.

Map

The basemap for the spatial viewer. Geometries always draw, with or without a basemap.

Setting What it does
Show basemap Off draws geometries on a plain grid and makes no tile requests. Default: on.
Tile URL template XYZ raster tiles over https://, with {z}, {x}, {y} and optionally {s} for subdomains. Reset goes back to OpenStreetMap.
Attribution Shown on every map, bottom right. It cannot be hidden; the tile provider requires it.
Max zoom The provider's highest zoom level, 1 to 22. OpenStreetMap serves up to 19.

The default tiles come from tile.openstreetmap.org, a donated community service with a tile usage policy: light interactive use, attribution visible, no bulk downloading. For heavy or team-wide use, enter a commercial or self-hosted tile server here. See Maps.

Tools

The command-line tools that Backup and Restore run:

  • pg_dump for PostgreSQL backup and pg_restore for PostgreSQL restore
  • mysqldump for MySQL backup and mysql for MySQL restore

Leave a path empty and Selekta searches your PATH and the usual install folders. To use a specific copy, type its path or click Browse…. Reveal shows the chosen file in Finder. See Backup and restore.

Security

Where secrets live and what protects production.

  • Credentials: passwords, SSH keys and passphrases are stored in the macOS Keychain, never in settings files or exports. Connection settings hold only a keychain reference.
  • Confirm destructive statements on Production is locked on and cannot be turned off. On Production, DELETE or UPDATE without WHERE or over 1,000 estimated rows, TRUNCATE, DROP and ALTER … DROP require typing the connection name. See Production safety.
  • Send crash reports: off by default. When on, an unexpected error sends its type, stack trace and the Selekta version to Selekta's own server, after removing SQL, data, names, hosts and paths on your Mac.
  • Query history: keep 90 days, 30 days or Forever. Clear history… deletes every statement in the local history for all connections, after you confirm.

Entries older than the chosen age are removed when Selekta starts and whenever you change the setting.

What leaves your Mac is listed in Privacy and crash reports.

About

The version number with its BETA label, the update status, and the open-source licenses of the components bundled with the build.

  • Check now asks for a newer version and says "You have the latest version" when there is none. The line above it shows when Selekta last checked.
  • When an update is available, a banner offers Download, then shows the download progress, then Restart to update or Later.

See Install for how updates are verified and installed.
